Recruiting Freelance Facilitator/Collective Member
Seachange Collective is growing! We are looking to bring on 1-2 freelance facilitator(s) who would also be interested in becoming a full member of the Collective. As a freelance facilitator, you would co-lead virtual workshops on anti-oppression program design, identity and positionality, and other social justice issues. We are looking for facilitators with strong commitment to social, racial, economic, and gender justice, and experience guiding groups through both theoretical discussion and on-the-ground work. After working collaboratively on several projects, we hope the new facilitator would be interested in becoming a full member of the collective, which would include involvement in shared decision-making, more long-term project-based/consulting work opportunities that include strategic planning processes, and other administrative and creative roles. Facilitators and members are paid on a per-project basis. Exact rates depend on the length and content of the project as well as the fact that our fees to partners and clients operate on a sliding scale in order to be accessible to groups and organizations with different budgets and resources.
Most Collective facilitators and members are based in NYC. While all of our work is currently virtual due to COVID, we anticipate and look forward to reconvening in person when it is safe to do so. We do have a slight preference for someone in NYC, but for the right person, we are open to new facilitators in other geographies as long as they are comfortable working remotely.
We particularly welcome applications from members of BIPOC, TLGBTQIA+, poor and working class communities, and/or people with lived experience of dis/ability.
What are we looking for in a freelance facilitator?
Values aligned
Skilled facilitation that holds space for all in the room, asks tough questions, disrupts power dynamics, and adapts to changing needs and wants of the group
Experience working with different audiences (can be in age, communities, workplaces, non-profits vs community-based organizations, sectors)
Availability for weekday workshops (usually on Eastern Time between 9am and 5pm), with occasional evening or weekend sessions
Transparent and clear communication
10+ years of experience leading facilitated spaces, building community, and/or engaging in social justice theory and practice
What are we also hoping to find in a collective member (who also works as a freelance facilitator)?
Collaborative: someone excited to work as part of a collective, interested in models of work and decision-making that prioritize care and collaboration, co-creating a culture that is non-hierarchical/authoritative with alternatives to white supremacist culture/norms
Experience with strategic planning and/or program design work that centers anti-oppression...or another values-aligned work area / expertise / passion that can help the Collective grow!
Flexibility: Our work is currently project-based and workloads can vary from week to week and month to month. A collective member does not have to be involved full-time, but typically is able to take on multiple concurrent projects
Capacity/interest to support with compensated administrative and/or communication tasks (e.g. social media and communications and/or finance and business planning)
